Free Ebrary Account
Free Adobe Digital Editions Account
Have Adobe Digital Editions downloaded to your computer
Start by conducting a keyword search in the Library’s catalog. You will receive a list of results. (Pictured below)
The first result listed is an e-book. You can tell it is an e-book when it has the GO button with an arrow beside it and it doesn’t have a location, call number, or status. To go directly into the e-book click on the GO button. To access more detailed information click on the title. Once you are in the record you can access the book by clicking on the link “Connect to title online (UA network users only)”. If you are working off campus you will need to log in with your UAnet and password. (The record is pictured below)
(Pictured below is an example of an e-book)
If you would like to view the e-book directly from your computer you can page through the book by clicking on the arrow buttons on the top. (Pictured above) If you would like to view a specific chapter from the table of contents click on the chapter title. (the chapter Bills of health is shown below)
If you would like to search the entire book for a specific topic, person, or keyword you can search using the Search Document box. This will retrieve all the locations that word appears in the e-book and also highlights it. An example would be if you wanted to search this e-book for herbs you would type it in the search bar and click on Search Document. (the results are pictured below)
You can also view the e-book by downloading it to your computer. To do this you will need to create a free ebrary account.
To create an account , click on “sign in” in the upper right hand corner. Then click on Create an account in the middle of the screen. (pictured below)
Once you have created an ebrary account you will have to create an adobe account to be able to use adobe digital editions. You will need to download adobe digital editions.
Now you are ready to download the book. Click on the download button in ebrary.
Once you have clicked the download button you will have the option to create a PDF with a limited number of pages or to check the entire book out for a specified loan period.
If you download a section/chapter as a PDF it will automatically save as a document to your computer and will remain there until you delete it.
If you want to check the ebook out select to download the ebook for a specified loan period. The computer will then prompt you to open the document. The document will automatically open in adobe digital editions as long as you are logged into it.
In adobe digital editions you can create bookmarks, use a navigation panel, change the view, and search the book.
Once your loan period expires you will no longer have access to the book and you will be prompted to delete it. If you finish using the book before your loan period expires you can return the book by right clicking on the book in your library and selecting return borrowed item.
